The Maskeliya Medical Officer of Health today (Jan. 20) suspended a program in Norwood, Nuwara Eliya, which was attended by nearly 1,000 youths, despite restrictions on public gatherings in the face of the Kovid-19 expansion.
The program was organized by the Vocational Training Authority of Sri Lanka.
The Vocational Training Authority of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) today organized a program to register young people in the plantation sector for courses at the Hatton Norwood Stadium.
Our correspondent said that nearly 1000 people including youths from Nuwara Eliya, Talawakele, Dayagama, Hatton, Maskeliya and Bogawantalawa participated in this event.
However, the Vocational Training Authority had not obtained permission from the Maskeliya Medical Officer of Health to implement the program with such a large number of participants.
Accordingly, the Norwood police officers took action to remove the youths who had come to register for the course from the stadium as they had violated the restrictions on mobilizing the people under the quarantine laws.
